Salt, Pepper & Paprika Potato Wedges

October 11, 2018

Salt, Pepper & Paprika Potato Wedges

I’ve been making these spicy potato wedges for so long, I can’t even remember (most likely I was still in college.)
To be honest, I can’t believe that after all these years of blogging I haven’t told you about them yet, you should revolt or something. Just kidding, please don’t.
I don’t even remember if I found the recipe somewhere or someone told me about it or if I just experimented on my own.
It’s as simple as it gets: Potatoes cut into wedges, oil, salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder, pop in the oven, and voilĂ : awesomely crispy, packed-with-flavor, potato wedges.

Eat Food Not Edible Foodlike Substances

March 20, 2013

This is one of the my favorite quotes from Michael Pollan’s Food Rules.
It focuses on the importance of eating real, whole food over any sort of junk food or food like product.
Eat Food Not Edible Foodlike Substances

Heavy processing of food - which improves shelf life and palatability - also removes nutrients, adds chemicals and makes food more readily absorbable, which might be a problem for insulin and fat metabolism.
That’s why you should try to avoid heavily processed foods, labeled by Michael Pollan as “edible foodlike substances.”
"They’re highly processed concoctions designed by food scientists, consisting mostly of ingredients derived from corn and soy that no normal person keeps in the pantry, and they contain chemical additives with which the human body has not been long acquainted. Today much of the challenge of eating well comes down to choosing real food and avoiding these industrial novelties1."

One Simple Eating Rule

February 18, 2013

This is rule #19 in Michael Pollan’s book “
Food Rules: An Eater’s Manual”. One of my favorites.
It stresses out the importance of eating real food, not creations of the food-industrial complex. Real food doesn’t have a long ingredient list, isn’t advertised on national television, and doesn’t contain stuff you can’t even pronounce the name.
Part of being healthy means consciously choosing wisely what you put in your mouth. So do eat food that comes from plants not that is made in plants!

The Virtuous Cycle

February 1, 2013

Healthy Living

Wellness is the choice of assuming responsibility for the quality of your life. It starts with the conscious decision to shape a healthy living and to keep at it. Being healthy is a continuum. You’re either healthy or you’re not.
The good news is that once you start being healthy it’s very unlikely that you’re going back.
Leading a healthy lifestyle is a virtuous cycle.
Make the first step, and you’ll generate a success leading to another success which will generate still more successes in a chain of events that reinforces itself through a positive feedback loop.
So start, don’t give up, and most importantly do not let any slips get you down!

It Never Gets Easier, You Just Get Better

October 10, 2012

With running, as with any other sport, the more you do it, the better you become at it.
You may run faster and for longer distances, but it never feel like it’s easy.
6 miles are still 6 miles at the end of the day. It doesn’t matter how slow or fast you go, it’s always challenging.
The more trained you are, the easier it will be to run them, but you still have to run them.
As a matter of fact: it never gets easier, you just get better!

Female = Ironman

May 3, 2012

This post is dedicated to all our women readers.
When we started TheIronYou we thought that this blog would have been much more appealing to a male audience than a female one.
Well, we were pretty wrong. Today we have lots of women readers, probably even more than men. And this post is our way to thank y’all for that!

As you can see you girls have a clear advantage on us, because you’re already an Ironman to start with. We, instead, have to do so much in order to become one!

The Iron You

Every Accomplishment Starts With The Decision To Try

April 30, 2012

I love this quote by Gail Devers, a three-time Olympic champion in track-and-field.
It’s great because it perfectly points out that in order to achieve something you must believe in yourself, and you should give it a shot.
Once you started, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication will actually get you there.

Everything and anything that seems impossible can easily become your reality, it just depends on how determined you are.
If you’re doing everything you can to achieve it; all your crazy and unreachable dreams can get closer, within reach; and ultimately they become reality.
And once you reach them, set new ones and start again.
There’s really nothing you can’t do if you just set your mind to it!

If You Have A Body, You Are An Athlete

I took this picture few weeks ago while I was in Paris. This is one of my favorites quotes of all time and seeing it on the wall just made my day.
