I’ve never been to Berlin before but I’ve heard nothing but good things about this city. I’m very very VERY excited to go and explore for myself.
Couz Dan moved there two years ago, and I’ll be staying at his place (thanks dude for the hospitality and for the picture!) He lives in Friedrichshain, a supposedly very trendy neighborhood I’m so stoked to explore.
Needless to say it, I’ll do some sightseeing and be a typical tourist, but for the most part I’ll just wander the street of Berlin and do as the locals do.
I’ll definitely go for a run at Temperhofer-Feld — a former airport recently converted into a city park in downtown Berlin.
I also plan to take a Bikram Yoga class in German. I won’t understand a thing, but I’ll just go with the flow and have a blast.
Then there’s this Street Food Thursday festival in Markthalle Neun I can’t wait to go to.
It’s a food fair that takes place every Thursday night, where you can taste delicious food from all over the world, cooked by young, talented chefs. I’ve heard so many good things about it, I can’t wait to see for myself what it is all about.
There are tons of places I’m dying to check out such as: Sunday flea markets (Maybachufer, Neue Heimat), hip cafes (Aunt Benny, Kaschk, Suicide Sue, Gipfeltreffen), trendy bars (Hops & Barley, Klukerkranich, Prater Garden, KPTN), and local dining favorites (Yumcha Heroes, Chicago Williams, Roamers).
What else do I have to see? I’m listening because you were so right about the Amsterdam suggestions last year.
If you happen to be in Berlin, you can spot me in the streets. I’m the tall, blond guy who walks excessively fast. I always have a camera with me and I do my best to not look like a tourist. Though I fail. Every.Single.Time. The fact that I don’t speak a word of German is the dead giveaway.
Have a blast!! Check out the Wednesday Chef and her book, she is in Berlin
ReplyDeleteAwesome, thanks you so much!
DeleteI was born in Germany and it is a beautiful country! I was there when the wall came down and I would love to see what it is like now. Can't wait to see tons of pics :)

DeleteBerlin is one those cities I'm dying to go. Have a blast my friend!
ReplyDelete:D
DeleteOooh how exciting! I haven't been to Berlin yet but it is on my list. My German is practically non-existent too, though I know random words that always crop up in 19th century leider ;) Gute Reise!
ReplyDeleteI've been practicing basic German to try to commumicate in something other than English. It's tough though...
DeleteSafe travels!

THIS YEAR IS THE YEAR FOR TRAVEL!!!! I am so excited to follow you ALONGGGGG in Berlin! I went once, but only for a day, so I obviously NEED to go back! But you are going to take enough pictures to make me feel like I am there, right??
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely GiGi, I'm on it!
DeleteHave fun in Berlin, I love that city. Check out the Wednesdaychef blog, she lives in Berlin . Forget about health food and have at least one curry wurst and a Berliner Weiße, beer with raspberry juice, delicious. Go to the KDW Kaufhof des Westen and get blown away by their food section. Viel Spaß
ReplyDeleteCurry wurst and raspberry beer: I'll definitely have both. Thanks for the recommendation G!
DeleteDUUUUUUUUUDE - This is gonna be an awesmazing trip! 7...6...days and counting....!!!!

Really? Then I'll stop by for sure.
DeleteThanks for the tip!
I can't wait to see all your pictures and hear about the great adventures you're going to have!
ReplyDeleteI'll try to do Berlin justice with my pictures!
DeleteAhhh so cool! I've never been to Europe - it's all on the bucket list! I hope you have a great time doing Bikram yoga - too hot for me, but I've heard that some people enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI have a tradition of taking a Bikram yoga class in every city I visit. So far the best has been in Paris.
DeleteYoga in French sounds so sophisticated, even when you don't understand a single word!
I've never been to Berlin, so I can't help ya there. Guess I'll just need to stay home and live vicariously through you instead. Oh, but I did hear that the Germans are good at soccer. Perhaps that will help you in your travels. Oh, and did I read hot dog soup on your notepad? Ummm, I need to know more. #WolfpackTravels
ReplyDeleteReally, German are good at soccer? Who knew...
DeleteAnd yes, you read that right "Hot Dog Soup". I have so much expectation for that place...
Looks like you've done your homework with that list of things to do and see. I love it. I've been to most the the southern big cities, but not Berlin, and hit up Octoberfest festivals a few years back. If you get a chance to hop a train and hit up Prague, it will blow you away. Like going back in time. Have a great time Mike.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kev. I'm planning on staying in Berlin the whole time. I want to experience the city as much as I can.
